The frames are cut from thin stainless sheet and folded into three dimensions, a little like origami. All of it happens in one building in Berlin, the MYKITA HAUS in Kreuzberg, where design and production sit together. The brand was founded in 2003 by Moritz Krueger, and the name comes from Kita, German for a day care, the building where it all started.

Mykita began in Berlin in 2003, and it got its name from its first home, a former day care centre known in German as a Kita. From that small start it became one of the most respected modern eyewear brands in the world.

The frames are still handmade in Berlin, in the brand's own house, and they are known for clever engineering. MYKITA marks some models as narrow, for example ALLEN, NIKEN and BERTHOLD, meaning a fit for a narrower face. At the other end, BERTHOLD at a 24 mm bridge and NEVILLE at 22 mm give room to a wider bridge. On top of that the silicone pads and temple tips are adjustable and replaceable, so there is more room to correct things at the fitting.

### How do you clean a MYKITA frame?

By the manufacturer's instructions: microfibre cloth only, and a dedicated lens spray if needed. No soap, no solvents and no concentrated cleaning products, because they attack the coatings, the silicone and the plastic parts. Acetate frames do not like heat above forty degrees, so do not leave them in the car. Lay the glasses down with the lenses facing up and store them in the hard case.
