Chopard eyewear comes from the jewellery side of the house. The collection has existed since 2005 and is produced in Longarone, Italy, with each pair assembled from start to finish by a single craftsperson. The model names come straight from the jewellery and watch collections: Ice Cube with its geometric engraving, Happy Diamonds, Imperiale, and on the men's side Alpine Eagle and Classic Racing. One detail worth knowing before you buy: the stones on the catalogue models are zircons, not diamonds.
Chopard was founded in 1860 in the Swiss village of Sonvilier and has been run by the Scheufele family since 1963. It is one of the few houses that make fine watches and jewellery under one roof, and since 2004 it has also had an eyewear collection, developed and produced for it in Italy by De Rigo. Those two roots, watchmaker and jeweller, are exactly what set the glasses apart: each frame is designed more like a piece of jewellery than an accessory.
Production is in Longarone in northern Italy, and every pair is assembled from start to finish by a single craftsperson. Some models are gold plated, and on the special Red Carpet editions the plating is 23 karat gold.
