Garrett Leight California Optical was founded in 2010 in Venice Beach, California, and the temples still carry the code VC/CA 90291, the neighbourhood's zip. Garrett Leight is the son of Larry Leight, a founder of Oliver Peoples, and you can hear it in the design language: mid-century American optical shapes, keyhole bridges, five-barrel hinges with real rivets and a core wire inside the temple. Sizing stays moderate, and most of the optical frames run between 44 and 51 mm.
Garrett Leight comes from real eyewear royalty. Garrett is the son of Larry Leight, the founder of Oliver Peoples, and he grew up around frames before opening his own shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California, and launching the brand in 2010.
The glasses carry that California spirit: relaxed, sunny and easy to wear. They are designed in Los Angeles and handmade in Japan from fine acetate, and each model is named after a street in Venice, like the round Kinney and the Wilson. You will even find the Venice zip code, 90291, stamped inside.
It is eyewear made by a family that has quietly shaped how the world looks in glasses for decades.

Garrett Leight is the easy California everyday choice. Round styles like the Kinney flatter square faces and lengthen the look; panto and vintage shapes work well on oval faces. The language is relaxed and sunny without drama - perfect if you want Japanese quality in an informal look.
Each model is named after a Venice street, and the 90291 zip inside reminds you where it comes from. Fine Japanese acetate, LA design, light on the nose.

This needs precision, because it changed recently. From the fall 2025 collection the brand moved all production to Japan. Until then almost the whole collection was made at a family-owned factory in China. Both are entirely genuine frames, and the difference is marked on the temple. If it matters to you, we will check the marking together on the specific pair you are trying.

Some of them. The original four, Hampton, Rialto, Speedway and Brooks, are named after Venice Beach streets, and the Kinney is named for Abbot Kinney Boulevard. But not every name is a street: the Canter, for example, is named after a well known Los Angeles deli. The brand itself says it draws on people and places in California, without claiming every name is a street.

The brand's own guidance is to go round and tailored, meaning a smaller, rounder lens, because the smaller the lens the thinner the edge. Among the models we keep that points to the Hampton and the Clune in their smaller sizes. In our workshop we will also choose the right lens material to cut down thickness, which matters just as much as the frame.

A metal wire is set inside the acetate temple. It is what lets us bend and shape the temple to your head without it springing back or snapping. GLCO uses different wire types by model, nickel silver in the Clark and a braided filigree in the Sherwood for example. Note that repair or alteration by anyone who is not an authorized retailer voids the two-year warranty, so it is better to have the adjustment done here.
