Ophy is a young Italian brand, founded in 2018 by Placido Minissale, with the company behind it based in Santa Maria di Licodia in Sicily. The design language is stated openly: squared corners, strong geometric lines and three-dimensionality of the object, drawn from modern and futuristic architectural forms. The Skyline collection, for instance, takes from the skyscrapers of Tokyo and the sequence of lines their overlapping heights create. The acetate is Italian Mazzucchelli, and there is a titanium line too.

The brand states plainly that its shapes draw on modern and futuristic architecture, and that the Skyline collection draws on the Tokyo skyline. It does not publish an official key to the names, but the catalogue does carry names that sound like well known architects and buildings. There is also an exception: the Ophy x Borsalino capsule is named after film actors. So the architectural inspiration is stated, and tying a particular name to a particular architect is interpretation rather than a brand statement.

Yes, and it is one of the reasons we carry the brand. The Modulor series and the Twilight come with a 23 mm bridge and the Leeza with 22 mm, which is a generous width that spreads the weight better on a wider nose. At the other end, the Goose with its 15 mm bridge suits a narrow bridge. The best thing is simply to try both and see where the frame sits.
