GIGI Studios is an independent brand from Barcelona, behind it a family that has been in eyewear since 1962. It is run today by Patricia Ramo, the third generation. What sets it apart is colour: the catalogue is far bolder with colour than optical frames usually are, and one model can come in ten completely different shades. The main material is Italian acetate (a premium cotton based frame material, not moulded plastic), and alongside it there is an extremely light titanium line.
The GIGI Studios story starts in Barcelona in 1962, when the family entered the eyewear trade. Three generations have passed since, and today the brand is run by Patricia Ramo. The collections are designed in Barcelona, and the company behind the brand is OFFVIEW. Until September 2019 the brand was called GIGI Barcelona, and while the name changed the reference numbers did not.
The materials are Italian acetate, metal and titanium. One technique the brand talks about itself is laminated acetate, layers that create depth and tonal contrast at the edge of the frame. It is easy to see close up, and it also explains the unusual colour range in the catalogue.

GIGI Studios suits anyone who wants a frame with character without moving into fashion-house prices. That is where the brand is strongest: independent design, real colour, and a price below every other brand we carry apart from the readers.
Where to start: BROOKS is the house's classic round, acetate at 49-19-145, and it works on small to medium faces. PORTLAND is the other side of the range, titanium from the LAB line in size 55, unisex, and unusually light for anyone who wants a frame they barely feel. If you are torn between the two, the difference in weight and presence is obvious the moment you try one after the other.
On colour, it is worth not playing safe. The same model exists in a quiet havana and also in green or pink, and the digit after the slash in the reference is exactly that, the colour code. In the boutique we will put several shades of the same frame side by side, because on a face the difference is far bigger than it looks on a shelf.

The digits before the slash are the model reference and the digit after it is the colour code. Here 64900 is the BROOKS model and the 8 is the transparent finish. It is useful because one model comes in ten or more colourways and it is easy to confuse them between photos online.
